Best of awards were voted on by the chamber members present at the annual dinner and presented to the winners at the March meeting. The Best Service Business went to Calvin Funeral Home; Best Retail Business went to Panel Room Restaurant; Best Professional Business went to Community Hospital, Watervliet; Best Manufacturing Business was Mann Metal and Best Overall Community Minded Business went to Mann Metal. Chamber Signs – the chamber sign at the East entrance to the City was destroyed in an accident, the person responsible did come forward and a police report was filed. A claim can be filed through the person’s insurance company, once the funds are received for the claim, they will be held by the Chamber until a decision can be made on replacement of the signs. Hicks Sign Company has filed for chapter 7, so trying to get something similar would be difficult. It was suggested to come up with some ideas on what type of signage would be best for replacement and bring it back for discussion. Chamber Member Vawter stated she had a meeting with the City Manager requesting release of the monies for the two entrance signs that were damaged previously; monies from that claim are still being held by the City. Vawter said she did not feel an explanation to other chamber members should be in the newsletter but members should go to the next commission meeting for an explanation as to why the funds were not being released to the Chamber. An explanation and invitation to the next City Commission meeting would be extended to chamber members through e-mail and mass mail. The signs are now on the chambers insurance.
