Meeting was called to order by Sefcik at 12:00 P.M. Pledge of allegiance was said. Members Present: Ackerman; Darling; Moody; Nye; Nyhuis; Rodney-Isbrecht; Sefcik; and Vawter Members Absent: Rios
Motion by Vawter, seconded by Nyhuis, to
approve the agenda as presented.
Motion by Vawter, seconded by Nye to approve
the minutes of the Apri114, 2009 meeting as presented. Strawberry Festival Report: So far, 25 applications for vendors has been received, entertainment has been lined up, Gospel Light House will be doing Strawberry Short Cake. Thanks to the Borden's, the Radio Stations of Southwest MI will do radio ads for $69.00 each and almost all of the slots have been filled. Would like to continue the bike give away again for the kids on Friday night. The boxes are out for voting for the sweetest baby and the strawberry prince and princes. Discussion on investing in banners, they are not very expensive and would be a great addition for advertising the festival. Emma Sefcik is working on the schedule and posters. Chamber signs: Anchor Signs should have the East entrance sign installed by a week from Friday; the Van Buren County Road commission approved moving it farther into the township on Noack's property. There will be two spaces available, Arndt's has not paid their maintenance fees and Hartford Outlet will be closing. Sinclair Graphics has requested one of the available spaces. Anchor Signs has sent the invoice to the City, who will issue a check for $3,093.00 when the east entrance sign is installed. Treasurer's Report Aprils ending balance is $2,832.43, the CD's balance is $7,162.61. Up coming July expenses for Strawberry Festival are entertainment $1,800, Police Reserves $600, Boy Scouts $250 and miscellaneous items (bikes, hula hoops, blow-up rides and games), donations are still coming in, but will have to dip into the CD to cover all expenses.
Motion by Darling, seconded by Vawter, to pay
bills as presented and accept the treasurer's report. Other Business Kim Sinclair, on behalf of the Lions Club, requested a donation for the
31st annual Strawberry Run. Motion by Rodney-Isbrecht, seconded by Ackerman
to give the Lions Club a $500 donation for the Strawberry Run.
Jim Gambarota, Chief Financial Officer with Community Hospital seeking information and feedback concerning a family who was refused service due to the circumstances concerning swine flu at the Hartford Clinic recently. Nothing was discussed.
The Lions Club has arranged a Community
Clean-up of Ely Park and the Strawberry Route on
May 30th all are invited to help.
