Meeting Minutes
October 9, 2007
12:00 NOON at Hartford City Hall
Meeting called to order by Sefcik at Noon
Pledge of allegiance was said
Members Present: Darling; Moody; Nye; Rios; Rodney-Isbrecht; Sefcik; and Sinclair
Members Absent: Hansen; Vawter
Motion by Sinclair supported by Rios to correct and approve the minutes of September 11, 2007 the purchase of insurance for the business signs at the entrance to the City at a cost of $512.00 should also include a one time charge of $50.00 for a new business fee making the purchase of insurance for the signs a total of $562.00.
Motion carried
Treasurer's Report
Treasurer’s report: Checking
acct balance is $3,812.59. A check written to the fire department in July
was processed after the account had been closed at Chemical Bank, will
issue a replacement check to the fire department.
Motion by Sefcik seconded by Rios to pay bills as presented and accept the treasurer’s report.
Motion carried, Sinclair abstained.
Discussion
- Discussion of a shop locally campaign for November/December 2007, a committee of Moody, Nye and Rios to work out the details of the campaign. A maximum of $500 in gift certificates to be purchased from Chamber Members services and a supply limit of $50.00.
- The signs are complete for the back of the entrance business signs and look great. The 4 x 8 sheets are colorful and should be noticeable. Sinclair graphics did a great job. Discussion on adding a sign to the bottom front of the business entrance signs stating “the Hartford Chamber of Commerce welcome you to Hartford” or something similar. There were some additional costs involved for the tracks to secure the back signs. Sefcik will store the signs as they are reusable.
- Billing for the business signage will become the responsibility of the Treasurer and will be prorated accordingly as one sign has still not been replaced. A complaint regarding the Sign in front of the El Supermercado has a lot of trash and loitering around it. Also a complaint from Southwest Transport missing two signs, Sefcik has them and he will make sure they are put back up.
- Discussion regarding the After Hours Events, the committee will meet to secure a few dates on the calendar for events some suggestions were made on asking Red Arrow Diary to again participate. The Lions Club is also considering a tour. The number for participation is limited for the tour.
- Nominating committee –
beginning rotation for three members who’s terms are up Hansen, Darling and
Rodney-Isbrecht if they so choose to accept a three year term. Bylaws state
if you miss so many meetings you are no longer a part of the board. Sefcik
is willing to be on the committee – Darling has also volunteered to help on
the committee.
Communications:
- Saturday October 13, 2007 will be the safety jamboree and fire prevention parade at 1:00 p.m.
- United Way Business Blitz, Rios will be calling on local business October 11 – 12, 2007 on behalf of United Way.
- February 12, 2008 has been set for the annual meeting at the Van Buren ISD Conference Center
- Project Help has set the dates for their annual coat drive to begin the weekend of Thanksgiving, November 22, 2007
- October 13, 2007 the Federated Church will be holding a chili dinner for Lonnie Johnson.
- The Chamber was approached by the American legion to hold an October Fest 2007 but it is too late to organize for this year will see if it works out for a 2008 event.
