An Eagle Court of Honor Ceremony was held for four young Hartford men from
Troop 196 to recognize them for attaining the level of Eagle Scout.
Committee Chairman and master of ceremonies Kenny Kent told the audience
that achieving the rank of Eagle is a long and arduous task and it was his
pleasure to be MC and honor four of the community's finest young men: Dale
Johnson, Nick Madison, Ryan Kent, and Alan Herriman.
Dale Johnson
Dale Johnson became a Webelo on February 1, 2001, and has earned a total of
31 merit badges in his quest for Eagle Scout. An Eagle Board of Review was
held on May 8, 2008, for Johnson, where he earned the rank of Eagle Scout.
Johnson's Eagle Service Project involved the construction of three display
boards arranged in a tri-fold, capable of showcasing the artwork of students
involved in Hartford Public Schools' art department.
Dale is the son of Larry and Donna Johnson.
Ryan Kent
Ryan Kent became a Webelo on February 1, 2001, and has earned a total of 27
merit badges. An Eagle Board of Review was held on December 26,2007, where
he earned the rank of Eagle Scout.
Kent's Eagle Service Project involved organizing three different smaller
projects at Hartford United Methodist Church.
Organizing a crew of Scouts and adults as his first project, they tore out
and replaced a portion of sidewalk by the church.
The second project was completing an area for storage
for outdoor equipment, which included the pouring of a slab and moving two
buildings onto it.
The third project was to erect a basketball hoop in the church parking lot
to benefit not only the church youth groups but also the students who
utilize the church during the week.
Ryan is the son of Kenny and Cindy Kent.
Nick Madison
Nick Madison became a Webelo on February 1,2001, and has earned 29 merit
badges on his quest for the Eagle Scout level. An Eagle Board of Review was
held on March 13, 2008, where he earned the rank of Eagle Scout.
Madison's Eagle Service Project involved hosting a book drive for the
families of deployed soldiers. His efforts netted more than 1,600 books that
he then delivered to the Family Readiness Group of the l-l25th Infantry from
the armory in Wyoming, MI. More than 100 families directly benefited from
the project.
Nick is the son of Ty and Barbara Madison.
Alan Herriman
Alan Herriman joined the Scouts and became a Webelo on February 1, 2001.
On June 18, 2008, an Eagle Board of Review was held and he earned the rank
of Eagle Scout. He has earned a total of 33 merit badges.
Herriman's Eagle Service Project involved the organizing of a flag
retirement ceremony that took place after flags were collected from Hartford
and the Tri-City Area.
Alan is the son of Jeff and Dotty Herriman.
Rose Beach, the Wabano District Executive, said she was happy to report that
the Eagle Board of Review wholeheartedly recommended the four young men for
advancement to Eagle Rank and was pleased to be there to honor this
fantastic accomplishment for Troop 196 of Hartford, Michigan.
Dave Smith, the Southwest Michigan Council Scout Executive, gave the four
new eagles the Eagle Scout Charge and Challenge. Smith then administered the
Eagle Scout Promise. Smith told them, "You deserve much credit for having
achieved Scouting's highest award." Scoutmaster Tye Madison presented the
Eagle awards for Troop 196. The Scouts' parents. were asked to step forward
and the mothers pinned the Eagle medals to their sons. The Scouts, in turn,
pinned miniature Eagle Scout pins on their mothers and Eagle Scout lapel
pins on their fathers.
Master of ceremonies Kent told the Scouts that the Troop Committee has
enrolled each of them in the National Eagle Scout Association for the first
five years of membership. He presented them with certificates and membership
cards.
Tributes of recognition of their accomplishments were received in person
from House of Representative Tonya Schuitmaker. She told the Eagle Scouts
that she was very proud of their commitment in pursuing the level of Eagle
Scout.
Schuitmaker said she wanted to be there in person to honor the Scouts and
would be sending them a written tribute from her office soon.
Other tributes to the Scouts were received from Hartford Township, the City
of Hartford, and Senator Ron Jelinek. Each Scout received a copy.
Refreshments and a meal provided by parents of the Eagle Scouts were
served after the ceremony.
