Construction Of A New Water
Tower in 1958 |

Old water tower at the corner of
S. Center and E. Linden Streets. |

Old pump house and water tower. The pump house is still
standing in 2003, however water tower and underground water storage tank
were replaced with the new water tower storage system. |

Houses
demolished and lots cleared in preparation of the construction of
Hartford's new water tower.
|

Partial completion of water tower
|
|

First section of the water tank being
hoisted into the air by a crane.

Construction completed. |

Clarence Pomeroy supervises
painting of the water tower.
|

Look closely to see a painter
directly beneath the tank |

Harold Walker, Sr. is just happy he's not one of the two painters hanging
from the water tower... they look like ants.

1-2003 - Many thanks to Pat Bachman
Empson for submitting these
wonderful
photos of the construction of Hartford's new water tower. The originals
were restored from slides of photos taken by her father, Don Bachman, from
his welding shop located across the street from all the action!
Classmate, Chris Vargo Sinclair (1966) commented in an email about
the water tower construction, which was an incentive for posting
these photos. I tried so hard to remember when the water tower was
constructed, but I couldn't, until Pat
Empson Bachman provided these lovely photos....thank you Chris and Pat for these beautiful visual memories of an awesome event in our
community.
Was
also quite interested to "see" the new city hall . . . I'm assuming it's
on the north side of Main, judging from the water tower in the
background. And do you remember that thing (the water tower) being
built? I believe we were in 4th - 5th grade. I remember roller skating
with Ray Cole out in front of the school and seeing the huge pieces of
steel being lifted up on cranes.
Geez, what crazy things we remember!
