Quicksand Halts Construction
of New Thomas Home
When
quicksand was encountered Monday in excavating the basement for the new $20,000
home that Paul A. Thomas had planned on South Center Street, construction has
halted and the site abandoned.
Chicago
architects who designed the new home were called here yesterday, and a new site
was selected at the crest of a knoll southeast of the present group of Thomas
Farm buildings. Work of developing
the new site was immediately begun. On
the site now selected, which is some distance from the street, the home will be
approached by a private drive through landscaped grounds.
Considerable
material and building equipment had already been delivered at the south Center
street site and the work of excavation was well underway when the quicksand was
discovered. The material and
equipment is being moved to the new site and the South Center street excavation
will be refilled.
