I wish to thank the citizens of Hartford and the Mothers of World War II for the very nice gifts. It certainly makes a fella feel good to know that the folks back home are thinking of their boys overseas.

Letter was written in July, 1944 from Rome describes the entrance of American troops into Rome, the retreat of the German armies. Another Letter appeared in the Day Spring in March,1945 and was written from Anzio beachhead in Italy.

I want to thank you for all the things you have sent to me since I've been in the navy. Please accept my apologies for not writing sooner.
   It gives us fellows here a grand feeling to know that the folks at home are always thinking of us. I wish I could tell you about the things I'm doing here, but the navy says no.  Say hello to the people of Hartford for me.

Letter to E.B.'s sister, Mrs. E.M. Dyre (Dyer) during the War of the Rebellion.  Describes pay situation and seeing President Lincoln during a visit to the camp.
